At HeartSong EAC we partner clients with a horse to explore and experience new ways to approach life’s stress. This may include meditation, breathwork, and mindfulness, along with uniquely designed activities, based on your individual needs.
I use a combination of horse psychology, relationship psychology, neuroscience, trauma informed therapeutic and educational games. First you sit down with your EAC and go over areas of your life that you would like to improve. We then design activities to do with the horses to bring about self awareness and a chance to experience different approaches and solutions to the challenges you would like to overcome. I will observe the horse and the client and we will design new activities that build upon new information. This is a no judgement zone, completely confidential and the client is always the guiding force in the activities.
An equine assisted coach is a life coaching method. Horses are always involved in the activities. It is “experience based” or “hands on”. It is driven by the needs and goals of the client. Coaches do not diagnose and treat mental health conditions. If you are currently seeing a therapist, let your coach know and discuss with your mental health provider.
“Studies have shown that when we are with horses, we have a "coherent" heart.
Studies have found a coherent heart pattern or HRV to be a solid measure of well-being and consistent with emotional states of calm and joy-that is, we exhibit such patterns when we feel positive emotions.
A coherent heart pattern is indicative of a system that can recover and adapt to stressful situations very efficiently. The research shows that people experience many physiological benefits by interacting with horses, including lower blood pressure and heart rate, higher beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters acting as pain suppressors), decreased stress levels, decreased feelings of anger, hostility, tension and anxiety, better social working; and greater feelings of empowerment, confidence, patience and feelings of peace”. (Sarah Barnes, certified Heartmath Practioner).
Clients will learn a little horsemanship skills, and some horse whispering, and may do some coach led horseback riding in the arena. However, most EAC activities are done on the ground, is not intended to teach horsemanship or riding skills, and requires no horse experience. If clients would like to learn horseback riding, we can refer you to some excellent teachers in the area. Equestrians can also benefit, and learn to trust themselves and their horse.
The outside of a horse, is good for the inside of a man. -Winston Churchill
Equine Assisted Coaching creates the opportunities for experiencing happiness, inner peace, and growth. We learn best from our experiences. You will learn strategies to overcome your challenges, gain confidence, learn trust, improve your relationships, and learn to listen to your inner wisdom. It is recommended that you do 6-10 sessions to develop new patterns of thinking. For about the cost of dining out, a daily run to the coffee shop, or a copay to a mental health provider, this is a great value.
